Today I decided to go for a mile run. Boy was I in for a surprise.
I was at first aiming for under 6, but then I settled on under 7 after barely making one lap at under 6 pace. I ran one lap at under 7 pace, but that was about it. I ended up running a 7:20 mile. Not bad, but not what I had wanted. And at the end, my core wasn’t felling too good. It wasn’t killing me, but it wasn’t too helpful.
So, I’ve learned a lesson and made one goal. Lesson 1: I need to start working on my core again. During track and XC I did a decent amount of ab and back work, but now I’ve just been doing upper body stuff, running, and then some lower body stuff (squats and power clean). So now I’m going to try to do 100 crunches and 50 obliques for each side every day, as well as 100 back-ups.
And my goal for the end of my freshman year in college is to be able to run a comfortable mile under 7. I would like to be around 6:30, but a comfortable mile under 7 will make me happy.
So, now it’s time for me to get back to the basics.
